For what reasons were people imprisoned in Andreasstrasse? What did their daily life in prison look like? And what is a \u2018political prisoner\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project day begins with a guided tour of the permanent exhibition \u201cIMPRISONMENT | DICTATORSHIP | REVOLUTION: Thuringia 1949\u20131989.\u201d With the help of the multimedia guide, the students then independently explore the second floor of our memorial and educational centre, which houses the still extant cellblock of the men\u2019s prison. In groups, the students consider historical sources such as the detention regulations or personal letters from prisoners. In a final conversation, we summarize and analyse the findings together. On request, we can also organise a conversation with an eyewitness to discuss their experiences as a political prisoner with the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
